Who Can and Should Take the Z Pack?

If you have consulted your doctor and have been diagnosed with a mild to moderate infection or illness such as pneumonia, taking the Z Pack may be a beneficial treatment for you.

Most anyone can take the Z Pack to treat a broad range of illnesses. However, there are some important notes to take into consideration before taking the antibiotic. While men, women, and children can take the Z Pack, women and children in particular should be cautious about taking any form of antibiotic, including the Z Pack.

Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult their doctor before taking the Z Pack. The drug is listed under category B in the Food and Drug Administration’s Pregnancy category scale. This classification means that the Z Pack should not be expected to cause any harm or danger to a woman’s unborn baby. However, doctors and scientists are still unsure about whether or not the drug passes from the mother to her infant through breast milk. Women who plan to nurse their babies should consult their doctor before taking the Z Pak. Children, of course, are another special category. Parents should discuss whether or not taking the potent Z Pak is the best method of treatment for their children.

Patients also need to discuss the medications they are currently taking with their doctors before starting to take the prescription. While most anyone can take the Z Pak itself, patients who are taking other prescription medications like Tegretol, Halcion, or another antibiotic medication may require a special dosage or monitoring while on the Z Pak. Or, they may have to consider another form of treatment all together.

It is also important to remember that patients should not take an antacid medication within one to two hours of taking their antibiotic. These medications can include Mylanta, Rolaids, and Maalox over-the-counter drugs. These drugs may negatively interact with the effectiveness of the Z Pak. Patients who have previously taken drugs that have made them sensitive to light or who have such a condition may want to investigate other options, as taking the Z Pak can make patients much more sensitive to light.
